Mark Knopfler is selling off a large part of his guitar collection at a London auction, with part of the proceeds going to charity. The collection includes significant guitars from Knopfler s 50-year career.
The collection, described as "old friends," includes iconic instruments such as a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard and a 1983 Les Paul played on the band s chart-topping album Brothers in Arms and at Live Aid.
Mark Knopfler announced the sale of his instrument collections spanning his illustrious five-decade career. The renowned musician, credited with making Dire Straits one of the world s largest bands, will auction 120 guitars and amps at Christie s in London in January, with 25% of the proceeds earmarked for charity.
