Earlier this week, artist Robert Vargas revealed his mural of late guitar great at the Hollywood location for Guitar Center. While mostly praised, there have been a few critics on social media and Wolfgang Van Halen called out one in particular claiming the mural looked nothing like Eddie Van Halen. Homie better get some glasses, because he can’t see shit, started Van Halen, later adding, The mural is incredible. Literally flawless. I can understand not liking a particular piece of art for whatever reason, but saying it doesn’t look like him makes you look BIG dumb. It’s not even a matter of taste, it’s just straight up wrong.
I want to extend my most heartfelt gratitude to the unfathomably talented [Robert Vargas] and [Guitar Center] for the painting of this incredible mural of my father at Guitar Center Hollywood, the musician tweeted Wednesday. What an incredible honor it is to see Pop immortalized in such a beautiful way.
Vargas piece, Long Live the King, is 17-feet tall and 105-feet long, spanning the store s entire outer wall at the rear entrance. The painting shows the late musician playing his famous Frankenstrat guitar, wearing his 1980-81 necklace and backed by the iconic Van Halen band logo.

On Tuesday, which would have been Eddie Van Halen’s 66th birthday, a giant mural of the guitar hero titled “Long Live the King” was unveiled outside the Guitar Center’s flagship store on Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Rendered by Los Angeles artist Robert Vargas, the mural depicts Eddie, with the Van Halen logo and his signature “Frankenstrat” guitar in tow, at 17 feet tall and 105 feet long, covering the entirety of the store’s outer wall at its rear entrance. Actor-director Bradley Cooper, TV host George Lopez and Jesse Hughes (of Eagles of Death Metal), were just a few who safely stopped in to see the curtain drop to unveil the finished mural.
