Poundland is placing 44 of its UK stores into temporary hibernation - but Milton Keynes stores will stay open

Updated Friday, 8th January 2021, 2:52 pm Poundland is placing 44 of its UK stores into temporary hibernation from the end of trading on Saturday (January 9) as a result of the ongoing lockdown restrictions. But MK s stores in Silbury Arcade, Patriot Drive and Westcroft will remain open. The budget retailer has said the move is to protect the business in the short-term and reflects the 80 per cent drop in footfall at shopping centres and high streets across the country. Poundland Poundland is replicating the measures it took during the lockdowns throughout 2020, with 44 or its 800-plus stores to be temporarily hibernated. As an essential retailer, the vast majority of its stores will remain open to serve customers in their communities.

The attempted arson took place at The Guineas Shopping Centre in Newmarket. - Credit: Archant An accelerant was used to help light cardboard in an attempted arson at a popular shopping centre in Newmarket.  The incident took place during Sunday evening (December 20) at about 8.15pm at the Guineas Shopping Centre, in Fred Archer Way. Unknown suspects made attempts to set light to pieces of cardboard and it is believed they used white spirit as an accelerant. Five youths were also thought to have been seen running away from the area at the time. Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour, or knows who was responsible, should contact Newmarket police by calling 101, quoting crime reference 37/73738/20.
