Croteau was first elected mayor in 2009 as a member of the Vision Montreal party, then shifted to Projet Montréal in 2011. He is on the cityâs executive committee, responsible for information technology and innovation. In the spring of last year, he announced a new borough plan that would make it more difficult for commuters to drive on side streets, diverting them to major thoroughfares like Papineau Ave. and Pie-IX Blvd. to make it safer for pedestrians, cyclists and children.
In 2019, Croteau announced his borough would become the âCopenhagen of Canadaâ cycling mecca by installing or rebuilding 155 kilometres of protected bike paths on its 255 kilometres of roads at a cost of $6 million.
