The JackTown Ramblers are four guys who have fun with bluegrass with a twist of swing and gypsy jazz. The regional band will play from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards in Hendersonville.
I noticed that your band has played in Hendo several times lately. But the band is based in Marion. What brings you to Hendo these days?
We love playing in the Hendersonville and Asheville areas. There are a lot of great music venues, wineries, etc. to play in that area, and we seem to have a pretty good following.
We frequent a couple of really nice wineries and a cider place in Hendersonville Point Lookout Vineyards being one of them and Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards being another… (and) Appalachian Ridge Artisan Hard Cider, which is a beautiful venue as well.
Live Music This Weekend: David Payne plays from the heart, inspired by the love of his life
Steve Wong, Times-News correspondent
Considering that I am just now discovering WNC musician David Payne, the people who say I am a slow learner might be right.
But David is not the sort of guy to seek attention. If anything, he is a man at peace with his life and his music, happy to be with the love of his life, at work on the farm and making music for others.
This Sunday, David will perform at Appalachian Ridge Artisan Hard Cider, and if you are the kind of person who gets a little thrill hearing an old favorite song, you might want to check him out.

A few weeks ago, I saw a Facebook event posting for an “electric violinist.” Now there’s a listing you don’t see every day when looking for “live music” in Hendersonville.
Granted, sometimes I see fiddlers who play bluegrass or country. I see an occasional violinist who is part of a band or ensemble. This might be the first time I’ve seen an electric violinist playing solo at one of Hendo’s popular venues.
I was intrigued and wanted to know more. The violinist is Paul Rene McIntire of Asheville. He’ll be playing Sunday afternoon at Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards.
Live Music: Bands playing New Year s Eve in Henderson County
Steve Wong, Times-News correspondent
At 6 p.m. today, New Year’s Eve, the Blue Ridge Pistols will stop playing for the partiers at Triskelion Brewing Company to ring in the New Year.
Yes, you read that correctly 6 p.m., not midnight, is when toasts will be made, everyone gets a hug, and you kiss that special someone.
No, wait we’re in the midst of a surging pandemic! Make those toasts six feet away from other people. Absolutely no hugging! And you just might have to kiss that special someone with face masks on. Welcome to 2021, and the band plays on.
