Post office prioritized for Guam Customs K-9 unit
Guam Customs seized over 110 pounds of methamphetamine in fiscal 2020.
“My priority right now is the post office and I’m utilizing the K-9 100% of the time at the post office,” Peredo told senators at an oversight hearing Tuesday.
Guam Customs works with the U.S. Postal Inspector to screen incoming mail. Peredo said 95% of the drugs it finds come in through the mail.
The agency has three K-9 handlers but one is deployed, leaving two handlers for three K-9s.
Senators said they’d like to see more K-9 inspections of cargo coming in at the Port Authority of Guam.
