back to 8.3, 8.4, people don t get into they just look at the number. and republican fields for president seems to be betting on grump. which is to say, it s not going to get any better. even when it gets better, it s not going to get better. which i guess is the long sterm strategy for this year. the washington post has a great piece about how it is the grumpiest field of candidates ever. the guy that just gives the face of grumpiness is newt gingrich right new. i want to talk a little bit about angry face. yes. peggy noonan called him an angry little attack muffin. that s fantastic. what about the quote unquote unholy alliance between santorum and gingrich. looks like it will be hell week for romney in new hampshire. i think on this show i predicted mitt would win in iowa. i think it is going to be fairly decisive. i believe you put $10,000 i put my favorite money on
part of that is you always campaign in poetry. but even so, i think they just had a real difficulty in messaging. it s striking how bill clinton has been doing a better job articulating the white house point of view than president obama has. do you think it will change? do you think the dynamic will change once he has an opponent and once he s out there and start to engage? that will certainly help president obama. but i do worry a little bit. you think back to 1968 when the democrats sense of crankiness helped elect richard nixon. 1980 with the same feeling towards jimmy carter. in 2000. the general sense of grumpiness that we felt towards al gore. i think we in the media also magnified al gore s
is the degree to which the american secretary of state is the in box for the world. i didn t even understand it as national security advisor. it s almost as though there is no issue that people don t bring to the secretary of state. and so you find yourself sometimes saying, well why is that my problem? and then you realize, you sort of get over your grumpiness about that, and you say it s because people really look to the united states to be a problem solver. they understand that we are prepared to do hard things. but i was surprised, even having been national security advisor at the scope and scale of the job of a secretary of state. in terms of mistakes. we made our share. whenever you are in consequential times you are particularly going to make them. i think we probably in iraq, if i had to do it over again, i would try to build iraq from the outside in, concentrating a lot less in reconstruction and politics in baghdad and working
