An official said, “During the specific years outlined, the theft and penalty numbers show a concerning trend. In 2021–22, 1305.55 units were stolen, leading to 4,730 cases being filed, and fines amounting to Rs 41.66 crore were collected. 2022–23 saw a decrease in stolen units at 86.72, but the number of cases remained high at 4,878, with fines of Rs 28.29 crore. In 2023–24, the theft rose slightly. These figures highlight a persistent issue of electricity theft plaguing Bengaluru, particularly among business establishments and industries.”
