[ cheers and applause ] welcome back to cnn s democratic presidential candidate town hall with former congressman, john delaney at acl live at the moody theater in austin. so we re going to go to another audience questioner. ask we have with us right over here, warren robinson, he works in the energy industry in houston. warren. thank you so much for the opportunity. college costs are soaring, and i m really worried. here in texas, even the public universities are 20 and $30,000 a year. not only do i have no idea how i ll send my own kids to college, but i also worry about the way this will impact the growing gap between the rich and the poor. yep. so what are your plans for making college more affordable? so, again, this is a question that comes up everywhere i go. right? there hasn t been a town hall i ve been at where people haven t come forward with this question, which shows how much anxiety there is. and when i went to school,
what do you think? is that your biggest lesson knowing what you are going to get into? what is your biggest lesson in how you stand out in that crowded field? for me, what i learned in the campaign is i won my lane. the only person to beat me in new hampshire was donald trump. so that was a pretty good win. when i went on to south carolina, we didn t get coverage. no one knew who i was in the south. the states were so big i couldn t break through. what i learned in the campaign is this. it s not about this specific policy proposal or some other. it s about the way the people feel about you. and i am convinced in an era of ever changing economics, people want to know do you care about me? that is why it is important that republicans have answers, real good answers on health care, why they have really good answers on what we are going to do about the growing gap between the rich and the poor? how does this all work out?
