our breaking news this morning, democrat conor lamb declares victory in pennsylvania s special congressional election. a race that s just too close to call. until all the votes are counted. but it should have been a slam dunk for republicans. back with me now mark preston, bakari sellers, amanda carpenter, scott jennings, symone sanders and jack kingston. you wanted to rebut something jack was talking about, symone? it s so late i don t even remember what jack said. i just want to say this. i want to reiterate that conor lamb did not run republican light. he did run as a democrat. and i think what this means for democrats in 2018 is that you can run good races with good candidates and solid messaging and great ground games. but we have to do the work to identify good candidates and to make sure we are going out there reaching people where they are.
democratic voters. the democratic party apparatus that i have been talking about extensively. what we saw in alabama and virginia for that matter and places across the country, democrats have talked to us a little bit more and investing a little bit more and that s why we are witnessing. speaking of the ground games, in alabama people were focused on victory. and he was delighted that the dnc hired 30 organizers to support field efforts. that was the ground game that we need. do you see ground game is the strategy for the democrats. one of the problems they had and with the fact that many states and many districts, they just let them go to the republicans and did not contest. for example, in texas, the democrats have a congressional
those voters actually cast their ballots. dana s back with us. the campaign is also focusing on voter turnout in some campaign ads. absolutely. there s the ground war, the air war, and the air war we ve been talking about, the fact that there s a barrage of new ads even this week. and on that note, hillary clinton is outspending donald trump, big-time. as of now, the clinton campaign is poised to spend $20 million more, just this week, than donald trump. david, i mean, you know this stuff firsthand. i mean, how do the two ground games stack up and how important is the advantage to hillary clinton? the difference between them is that the clinton campaign is in control of its open ground game. and they re focused on hillary clinton. the republican operation is focused on bringing republicans out. but they re not trump focused and they re not coordinated to t degree that perhaps they should be, with the trump campaign. so it s unclear to me what the there could be places

we will see how it plays out in the early numbers. how much pan do you hear from senate candidates? absolutely. i would add one note of caution about the early voting numbers. we don t know how any of these people went into the ballot box and pulled the lever. this is based on the party somebody is affiliated with. one of the things people have speculated about are democrats going to vote like traditional democrats? are republicans going to vote like traditional republicans? just a note of caution on that. to stu s point, this is like a political science experiment in whether ground game matters. what you have heard from senate candidates are they have had to buildut presidential-type ground games in each and every state. that s tremendously difficult. i will wrap this up. we will know on election day if her lead increases from what the national polls say. then it will tell us that ground games do matter. with the beach boys who sang catch a wave.
