Groton A team of people busily assembled festive decorations in a Groton family’s yard on Tuesday, including reindeer, Santa, inflatable snowmen and candy cane lights, and strung Christmas lights on a tree.
Groton Senior Center staff, Groton Town police officers, members of the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department and volunteers were all pitching in to decorate the outside of a home on Route 1, across from the Groton Family Farm, for a family that survived COVID-19.
“This is amazing that our community is doing this,” said Dana Parfitt, who lives in the home with her family.
In mid-November, Dana and John Parfitt, and their granddaughter Onastasha, 16, and grandson, Owin, 15, began coming down with symptoms of COVID-19 that “hit hard and fast,” Dana said. Their symptoms included a scratchy throat, cough, respiratory aches and general aches and pains, and Dana and Onastasha both lost their senses of taste and smell.
