Bear Grylls supports event to raise funds for Calvert Trust
Bear Grylls is backing an event to raise cash for the Lake District Calvert Trust.
The Calvert Bear 5 Peak Challenge is organised by Keswick Rotary Club to help the charity, which was on the brink of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It launched a £1 million Bounce Back Appeal in December and raised over £730,000, allowing it to reopen.
Keswick Rotary said 2021 was also set to be extremely financially challenging for the Calvert Trust, so it had committed to a final push for funds. The club has supported the trust since its foundation 40 years ago.
A PAIR of campers found themselves in the hands of a mountain rescue team after losing their way. The couple had camped close to the summit of Grisedale Pike, but they found themselves trapped and unable to find the path. Not knowing which direction to go the pair were forced to call for help. Keswick Mountain Rescue team were alerted on December 8 just before 12pm and scrambled to the location. The rescue team deployed two vehicles and volunteers on foot to trace the stranded couple. When the campers had been located the rescue team members managed to harness and helmet the pair to the team and help them to safety.
