The owner of a Shakopee restaurant has been charged with 58 felony tax crimes.
The Minnesota Department of Revenue (MDR) said Juansheng Lin faces 53 felony counts of filing false or fraudulent sales tax returns and five counts of filing false or fraudulent individual income tax returns.
Lin became the sole owner of Tokyo Sushi and Grill Japanese in 2016, according to MDR. She allegedly underreported taxable sales at her restaurant for several months from April 2015 and November 2019 to avoid paying over $18,000 in sales tax and interest. MDR says Lin owes nearly $20,000 in taxes and interest.
Each tax-related felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both.
