Wicklow Green Party Councillor Lourda Scott has praised the introduction of the new deposit return scheme, which is being rolled out from Thursday, February 1, and will see consumers pay a refundable deposit on plastic bottles and cans, which they will get back when they return the drinks containers to participating shops and supermarkets.
The housing and rehabilitation charity Tiglin, which has served approximately 120,000 hot meals to the homeless in 2023 alone and predicts that over the Christmas period 13,179 individuals in Ireland will be without a roof over their heads, is asking people in Greystones and the wider area to take part in a sleep-out to raise funds for its work in 2024.
The world-famous Alpinist, author, and photographer, Elizabeth Burnaby (nee Hawkins Whitshed) who was born in Greystones, has been immortalised at Greystones Rail Station, with the first Corten Steel totem launched on Monday, November 13.
