The Outlook: It s looking like a wet Christmas

Quote The problem with winter sports is that – follow me closely here – they generally take place in winter. — Dave Barry It’s Christmas Week and we’re all looking for a bit of cheer in this winter season of our dismay. Yes, astronomical winter begins (or began, depending on when you’re reading this) at 5:02 a.m. on Monday, and that means our total daylight begins to lengthen, ever so gradually, at first in the afternoon. But since the atmosphere takes time to enter the deep freeze — and to begin baking after the summer solstice around June 21 — the coldest stretch of meteorological winter in the Berkshires extends from Jan. 10 to Jan. 25, with a normal average high of 29 and an overnight low of 11.

How Much Snow Will The Berkshires See Tonight/Tomorrow?

How Much Snow Will The Berkshires See Tonight/Tomorrow? With just about 12 hours until the first snowflakes are expected to fall, the Nor easter moving up the coast has meteorologists in disagreement over how much the first big storm of the season will actually bring. As of 7 o clock this morning, The Weather Channel is predicting lows of 19 tonight, with snow starting between 7 and 8 tonight and continuing through noon tomorrow. They expect Berkshire County to see around a foot overnight and another 1 to 3 the tomorrow. Accuweather has a vastly different forecast for tonight into tomorrow with snow starting around 10 p.m. tonight and continuing through 9 a.m. Thursday. They re predicting 4 to 8 inches overnight and another 1 to 2 tomorrow morning.

Winter storm could dump nearly a foot of snow on parts of Berkshire County

A powerful nor’easter is likely to dump a foot or more of snow on the Berkshires, where the National Weather Service has hoisted a strongly worded winter storm warning, effective from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 1 p.m. Thursday. Heavy snow is expected with total accumulations of 10 to 18 inches in some areas, according to the warning issued Tuesday afternoon. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph are expected to cause blowing and drifting. “Travel could be very difficult to impossible,” the warning stated, with hazardous conditions impacting the Thursday morning commute. The highest snowfall amounts are expected south and east of Pittsfield, with lower amounts in North County, depending on the final track of the storm.
