The Beosound Explore looks more like one of those reusable coffee cups than a portable speaker, which is probably not bad thing seeing as it costs $199. Bang & Olufsen designed it to be hung off the side of a bag using a carabiner, and durable enough to cope with most weather conditions while at the same time offering more than a day of audio playback on a single charge.
Measuring just 81 by 124 by 81mm and weighing 631 grams, the Explore is made from a mix of Type 2 anodized aluminum, polymer, and fabric. It s waterproof, dustproof, and IP67 certified, which should be ample protection for the two 1.8-inch speakers and two 30W amplifiers housed inside, offering 360 degrees of sound and a maximum sound pressure of 91 decibels (59 decibels of bass capacity). Power is provided by a 2,400mAh battery offering 27 hours of playtime at typical listening levels. Recharging takes just two hours.

Editor s take: The vaccine rollout and reopening of many outdoor locations will likely give portable Bluetooth speaker sales a boost. While the Beosound Explore is expensive, its combination of toughness and sound quality could make it a popular option.
Bang & Olufsen, the Danish audio giant famed for its high-end, pricey products, has added to its portfolio of portable Bluetooth speakers with the Beosound Explore, which is rugged enough to take on all your outdoor pursuits.

Bang & Olufsen has introduced a new wireless audio product called the Beosound Explore. The Explore is a rugged speaker created for adventurous types who want to take music with them on the go. The speaker was developed to be lightweight and waterproof with long battery life.
All of the audio hardware is tucked away inside an attractive and small type 2 anodized aluminum chassis that is both dust and waterproof. The manufacturer says it’s the first speaker on the market featuring a Type 2 anodized aluminum enclosure for improved scratch resistance. The anodization achieved on the aluminum chassis is created by building up the aluminum oxide on the surface.

Andy Warhol famously turned a mundane can of Campbell’s soup into an iconic piece of pop art, and now Bang & Olufsen is elevating the kitchen staple to a luxe piece of personal entertainment with its new aluminium-clad Bluetooth speaker that’s lightweight, waterproof, and not exactly cheap.
Bluetooth speakers usually look like a container of Coffee-Mate creamer wrapped in a fancy woven sock. But the new Beosound Explore is legitimately a beautiful piece of kit. There’s still a fabric wrap around the speaker’s dual 1.8-inch full-range drivers to help protect them from water and other unwanted elements (the speaker is rated IP67 for its ability to keep out dust and water) but that’s hidden behind a grill made from type-2 anodized aluminium with a scratch-resistant finish so when tossed its around during an outdoor adventure, it doesn’t immediately look like it’s been attacked by a bear.
