Saturday, July 24, 2021   View Larger + Robert P. Sarni MD, 90, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully on July 21, with his wife of 24 years, Janice, at his bedside. Robert was the son of the late Alfred and Louise Sarni (Zoratti). Robert was a graduate of Classical High School 1949 and the University of Rhode Island in 1953. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Germany and rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant at the time of his honorable discharge in 1955. He was admitted to the University of Maryland School of Medicine graduating in 1960. Upon completion of his internship at RI Hospital and residency at St. Joseph Hospital, he went into private family practice and Industrial Medicine in 1962 in Cranston, RI.

Steven Merolla, a former Warwick council president, agrees to $1000 fine

WARWICK  The Rhode Island Board of Elections has fined the former president of Warwick’s City Council $1,000 for inadvertently spending almost $6,000 in campaign contributions on personal expenses. Both the board and the former official, Steven B. Merolla, agreed to that fine following an audit of Merolla’s account. They also agreed that $5,911 from Merolla’s campaign account had paid for 12 advertisements for his law firm in a church bulletin from 2014 to 2019. Mr. Merolla states and the board accepts that these actions were the result of mistake and inadvertence and that he has fully reimbursed his campaign account, says the board’s report.
