The annual Western Illinois University Employee Memorial Tree Planting Ceremony, which has been held each spring to honor employees who passed away, will be moved to the fall semester this year. The event will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. As the pandemic prevented the memorial planting ceremonies, employees who passed away in 2020 and 2021 will be honored at the Fall 2022 ceremony with the planting of two trees.

Services for WIU Building Service Foreman Gregory Mitch Carey, 50, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 at at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12 at the funeral home. -
WIU Mourns Death of WIU-Macomb Employee Gregory Mitch Carey
MACOMB, IL – Gregory Mitch Carey, a building service foreman in Facilities Management at Western Illinois University, passed away Feb. 2 in an auto accident. The Western Illinois University community mourns Mitch s passing. We extend our deepest sympathies to Mitch s family, friends and co-workers, said Western Illinois University President Guiyou Huang.
Carey joined WIU in February 2012 as a building service worker. He was promoted to a building service foreman in August 2015.
