#GeneralStrike is trending on Twitter in the UK. And with good reason. Tens of millions are outraged by what is happening to working-class people’s incomes and living standards, and millions at least inspired by the strikes breaking out in many places. Descriptive phrases like “half the country is on strike” are being used a lot too. And indeed the level of strikes has shot up. It is not yet anywhere near a general strike, or at a point where one could plausibly be achieved by simple agitation for it.
