LAFAYETTE, L. - With more than $697 million in taxable sales in March, 2021 year-to-date taxable sales reached $1.77 billion, according to a spokesperson for Lafayette Economic Development Authority. Year-to-date sales were 19.0% higher than 2020 and 17.6% higher than 2019. March 2021 sales are the highest on record for any month in historyâtopping December 2014 by 4.2%, or $28.0 million.
Lafayette Parish recorded over $697 million in taxable sales in March.
According to a press release from the Lafayette Economic Development Authority, sales in March were the highest on record in Lafayette Parish for any month in history even topping the colossal December 2014 holiday figures by $28 million.
A few obvious factors that more than likely drove consumer confidence were vaccinations that saw a progressive increase as eligibility continued to open up throughout the month couple with the third stimulus payment for Americans who qualified.
Another major factor was the easing of restrictions for businesses, allowing them to open up more offerings and service customers at an increased rate. It s also fair to assume that with more things opening up, wardrobes and appearances around the parish probably got a solid reset once we began seeing people in person again.
Personal Protective Equipment facility coming to Broussard

Two new PPE manufacturing facilities are planned for the Broussard area, and they re expected to create 2,200 new jobs, officials say.
Gov. John Bel Edwards joined Ochsner Health President and CEO Warner Thomas, SafeSource Direct CEO Justin Hollingsworth and other officials announces the development of two manufacturing facilities for personal protective equipment, or PPE.
Economic Development officials say the projects will create a combined 1,221 new direct jobs, and Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will result in a combined 992 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 2,200 new jobs.

LAFAYETTE, La. - With more than $530 million in taxable sales in February, 2021 year-to-date sales reached $1.07 billion in Lafayette Parish. Year-to-date sales were 9.64% higher than February 2020 and 12.25% higher than February 2019. February 2021 sales are the highest on record for the month of February.
âAs weâve passed the one-year anniversary of business closures due to the spread of COVID-19, itâs very reassuring to see retail sales continue at a brisk pace,â says Gregg Gothreaux, President and CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA). âWeâve rallied to support local retailers, restaurants and service providers in the past year, and I hope to see that trend continue. These businesses are the lifeblood of our economy.â
