“I wanted to make sure that everyone in my class had a toy under the tree and that no kid got left out,” said Reed Marcum, now 18, of the first annual 4-H Toy Giveaway he held in December 2016 when he was 11 and in the fifth grade. The toy giveaway is now so popular that it’s become a drive-thru event, with each child from McAlester, Marcum’s hometown, and surrounding towns, selecting one new toy, along with new pajamas, gloves, hats, socks and underwear. The items are either bought and donated by individuals, or purchased with money sent in by people and area businesses.
