Secretary assistant secretary of state for International Security and proliferation, christopher ford. First put forth by iran and egypt in 1974 as a u. N. Resolution to be expanded to weapons of mass destruction in egypt, thefrom proposal has been discussed for many years. Cns has worked many years and we have publication on the zone issue. Most recently in november, 2018, the u. N. General assembly adopted a resolution asking the u. N. Secretarygeneral to convene a conference about weapons of mass destruction free zone starting from 2019 and continuing until there is a legal binding treaty.
