Montana has become the first U.S. state to ban the China-owned app TikTok. Governor Greg Gianforte (R) announced Wednesday that he has singed legislation in order to protect his state's residents from "the Chinese Communist Party."
TikTok could potentially be banned by a US state over national security concerns for the first time after Montana governor Greg Gianforte signed a bill effectively prohibiting the app from operating in the state.
The ban is effective from January 1, 2024. Montana is the first US state to impose a ban on TikTok which will take effect from January 1, 2024. The SB 419.
