COUNCILLORS have slammed the ‘disgusting’ decision to close a town Post Office with little warning. Members of Holywell Town Council shared their views on the situation as Greenfield is left without the service many in the area use as a ‘lifeline’. Cllr Rosetta Dolphin, who represents Greenfield as a county councillor, said she was ‘very disappointed’ to see the facility close its doors and added she was ‘disgusted’ at how it was handled. The first that she learnt of the closure was when the signs came down from the building – and at that point it was already too late to try and save it.

I conclude this from the following experiences we have had with Greenfield’s mail service last week and this week: The business week beginning Monday, February 15 was a national holiday with no mail service. We placed outgoing mail in our mailbox late on this Monday for pickup the next day on Tuesday. That mail was not picked up until late Thursday, February 18. We were two days without mail pickup or delivery.

Today in Greenfield, almost all of the mail carriers have their own postal service trucks or vehicles to deliver letters, magazines and packages on their route. That was not the case years ago, including when I worked for the Greenfield Post Office between the mid-1940s and 1990.
