Chuck and Carla Offenburger are one of the most beloved couples in the state of Iowa. For years, Chuck was known as the Iowa Boy, as the Iowa Columnist for The Des Moines Register. Carla did community relations for Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.
For the last 21 years, they’ve been sharing their writing through Offenburger.com. Together they have done extraordinary things. They have always seemed to have boundless energy and enthusiasm, open hearts, creative minds and a deep love for Iowa.

This year’s Artsfest will feature work for sale by a variety of artisans, food booths and live music. And it will offer something else: COVID-19 vaccines.
The Greene County CARES Mobile Support Unit will be stationed near the event to give shots to those who want them.
The unit is a partnership of Jordan Valley Community Health Center, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, the Greene County Medical Center, the City of Springfield and the United Way of the Ozarks’ Give 5 program. It will be at the southeast corner of the University Plaza parking lot, at 333 John Q. Hammons Parkway, Saturday, May 1, from 10 to 5:30 and Sunday, May 2, from 10 to 4:30.
Only minor injuries were reported following a single-vehicle accident Thursday evening southwest of Churdan. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene of the accident on F Avenue near the intersection of 170
th Street at approximately 6:49 p.m. Their initial investigation found a 17-year-old female was traveling along F Avenue in a 2009 Honda Fit and lost control of the vehicle. The car rolled twice and came to rest in the ditch. The driver as well as a 13-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Greene County Medical Center by private vehicle for treatment. Damage to the Honda is estimated at $10,000.

Minor injuries were reported in a Christmas Eve accident west of Dana. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to S Avenue and 170
th Street at approximately 10:50 a.m. The initial investigation revealed that 44-year-old Norman Lee of Paton was southbound on S Avenue in a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica but failed to stop for the posted sign at the intersection with 170
th Street. He pulled into the path of a 2005 BMW 325i, driven by 47-year-old Anthony Sims of Dana. An unidentified individual was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by private vehicle with those suspected minor injuries. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and Lee was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. The Paton Fire Department assisted at the scene.
