New warnings for dog owners as heartworm spike hits Queensland
Pet owners are being warned that a potentially deadly parasite could be spreading along the country s coasts, with a spike in the number of heartworm cases in dogs in southeast Queensland.
Included in those is 14-year-old Gold Coast Labrador, CJ, who was taken to a Greencross vets for a routine check-up, and is now being treated for heartworms. The owner thought she was on heartworm prevention (medication), but it was just for ticks and fleas, Dr Jamie Mulcahy from Greencross Mudgeeraba told 9News.
