UPDATE:
A Webster Parish Deputy has died after being shot by a suspect outside a home on Green Tree Street in Doyline.
William Earl Collins, Jr. was a full-time deputy at the Bayou Dorcheat Correction Center and was serving part-time as a Doyline police officer when he was shot.
The suspect is in custody. But he was taken to an area hospital with life threatening wounds.
Attorney General Jeff Landry issued this statement:
Today, I join my fellow citizens in mourning the tragic death of Webster Parish Deputy and part-time Doyline Police Officer Billy Collins. Our men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every day, and last night Officer Collins paid the ultimate price. I thank his family for his faithful service to the community and pray for God’s blessing on them during this difficult time.
DOYLINE, La. â A Webster Parish sheriffâs deputy who worked part-time for the Doyline Police Department has died after being shot in the line of duty Friday night.Â
Sheriff Jason Parker said Deputy William Earl Collins Jr., also known as Billy, died from his injury around 7:43 p.m. We lost a good man, a family lost a good husband, a good father, a good Webster Parish deputy, a good reserve office, patrol officer for the city of Doyline that loved and served his citizens well, Parker said shortly before midnight during a news conference.
Collins was employed as a supervisor at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center for about 10 years. But he worked part-time for the Doyline Police Department and that s what he was doing when he was fatally shot.Â
