Water boost for Cross Hills company s green credentials

A CHEMICAL company has launched an ambitious project to develop its own water supply. Airedale Chemical drilled a 20-metre-deep borehole in the grounds of its Cross Hills site to test the quality of the water. And following the success of the procedure, the firm will now use the resource in its chemical processing works. The aim is for the business to become fully water self-sufficient by the end of this year. Airedale Chemical says the initiative will both help the environment and cut running costs. Leading the project is the company’s operations director, Daniel Fox. He said: “As a chemical company we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously, so when the opportunity arose for us to source the water used in our processing from within our existing boundaries we jumped at the chance.

Wind Turbine turns 15 years on Green Park, Reading THE FIRST wind turbine over 100m tall in Reading has turned 15 years old. The 120 metre-tall turbine, the first of its kind to be constructed in the Thames Valley, has generated more than 50 million kWh s since it was first started in 2005 - this is the equivalent of 25 million dishwasher loads. Found in Green Park, Reading, it is the only wind turbine in the UK that can claim to be partially designed by world-famous architect Sir Norman Foster. The turbine powers a 2.5 square mile radius (including the Madejski Stadium), and has amassed 48,000 visitors touring the site have since 2008.
