Local schools look ahead to fall, bringing all students back into classrooms

Local schools look ahead to fall, bringing all students back into classrooms WHAM © Provided by WHAM – Rochester Greece, N.Y. – Before the current school year is even over, local education leaders are already looking ahead to the fall and determining the best ways to bring all students back into the classroom. On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said, barring any unforeseen crisis, there is “no reason” why schools shouldn’t be fully open in the fall. During a news conference Tuesday, Greece Central School District Superintendent Kathleen Graupman said she supports the governor s assertion that all students should be back in the classroom come September.

Extracurriculars still waiting on performance guidance

Created: February 17, 2021 06:59 PM ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)  While high-risk high school sports have been underway for almost three weeks, other extracurricular activities like choirs, bands, orchestras and drama clubs are still waiting for new guidance from New York State on when they can perform again.  At Eastridge High School in Irondequoit, vocal students and teachers are still taking a virtual approach to performing.  I keep trying to give kids opportunities because they need little glimmers of hope, said Eastridge Vocal Director Ellice McQuay. I just thought I don t want to make any promises this year that I can t keep, so I know that I could keep a promise of recording them, giving them solos, like that s a thing that I can assure will happen.
