Updated: 5:14 PM CST December 17, 2020 WACO, Texas The principal of Waco High School James Stewart sent a message to Waco High families and employees Thursday about two more COVID-19 cases on campus. “Yesterday and today, two more people at our campus have reported testing positive for COVID-19. At this time, we are expecting at least 36 teachers to be out tomorrow, and most of those teachers are quarantining after being in close contact with someone who tested positive for the virus, Stewart said. For this reason, all Waco High students will be learning remotely tomorrow. Our campus will reopen for in-person instruction after winter break on Jan. 5, 2021.

Principal Dr. Ricky Edison announced the news to parents and staff Tuesday evening. According to the principal, 12 people, who have been on campus, have tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday morning. That includes seven people who reported testing positive Monday or Tuesday. This increase in cases also means a large number of both students and staff will be out for the rest of the week after testing positive or being in close contact with someone who tested positive.
