And now Wolford, 54, is again blazing a trail as she is set to become the chief judge of the district, which includes the state s 17 westernmost counties. She will become the first woman to serve in this role in any part of the state outside of New York City. Wolford replaces U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci Jr., who was also appointed by Obama in 2013 and has served as chief judge since 2015. She will remain in the position for seven years.
