Problems brought by lockdowns outweigh solutions, say experts Pix for representational purpose only
PETALING JAYA: A change in strategy is now inevitable if the country is to win the war against Covid-19.
Health experts agree that the frequent lockdowns have not only proven to be ineffective in curbing the transmission of infections, but have led to other problems.
Universiti Malaya epidemiology and public health expert Dr Sanjay Rampal said there is now a high level of fatigue among the people.
“This has led to psychological distress, decreased social connectivity and financial losses.”
He said the restrictions on movement have been in force for most of the past 17 months but the spread of Covid-19 continues unabated.

PUTRAJAYA: Achievements made under the National Recovery Plan (PPN) to enable Malaysia to come out of the Covid-19 crisis will depend on the support of all parties as it is very much a ‘whole of nation approach’ rather than a ‘whole of government’ one, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
The Prime Minister said all parties including the government, the people, non-governmental organisations and other parties must work together and provide support for the success of PPN, which is a transition strategy out of the health crisis that hit the country since March last year.
He said the country should not be seen as having failed to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic as the government had just embarked on the PPN, adding that achievements will take time as the plan cannot yield results over just a week or a month.
