Eagle Valley Wildland encourages homeowners to use this month to prepare for upcoming fire season

Special to the Daily Wildland fire season is around the corner, and the Eagle Valley Wildland Program is looking to help prepare the community by kicking off a “Protect Our WUI” challenge during the month of April. The Eagle Valley Wildland Program, consisting of Greater Eagle Fire Protection District and Eagle River Fire Protect District, will unveil a challenge each week in April to encourage the community to take small steps to harden the defensible space around their homes. Follow the Eagle Valley Wildland Program on Facebook and Instagram for the challenges each week. By sharing before and after pictures of the work done for each of the weekly challenges, participants will qualify to receive a goodie bag filled with prizes.

Avon s Wildridge area will see slash pile burning Jan 27, 28

Special to the Daily The Eagle Valley Wildand Team, consisting of members from Greater Eagle Fire Protection District and Eagle River Fire Protection District, in cooperation with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, United States Forest Service, Eagle County and the Town of Avon will be burning slash piles in the Wildridge Neighborhood. Burning operations will occur as weather and snow conditions permit, and are tentatively scheduled for Jan. 27 and 28, 2021. Due to the number of piles, burning operations could take several days. Burning will only be conducted under specific guidelines established by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, including having adequate snow cover on the ground and acceptable weather forecasts that meet guidelines for safe and effective burning and adequate smoke dispersal.
