This is not just a weird Christmas song, it's one of the most bizzare tunes I've ever heard. It sounds normal at first, painting an elegant picture of a New Haven family waiting for Dad to return home from work. But after a few very unexpected twists you are left in disbelief.
If I asked you to close your eyes and imagine Christmas, what would you see? You'd probably imagine a picturesque snowy village, illuminated by the glow of candles. The candles are probably perched in the windows of colonial-style homes lined up one after the other. That is an idealized vision of Christmas; and for many Americans it looks nothing like reality.
Every year around this time there is a frustrated groan from some people who say others start the season too soon. The people complaining are in the minority here in Connecticut because a staggering number of Nutmeg State residents say they put their lights up before December 1st.
These studies are interesting and the figures seem high but they don't meet the actual, more insane numbers. I believe people lighten their numbers when answering these questions because they are either afraid to admit it to themselves or just ashamed at how much money they lit on fire.
