Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine visits newest ODNR Storybook Trail

Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine visited the park Friday to celebrate the launch, according to Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Mary Mertz. Right now, there are six Storybook Trails. Each one is a half-mile long and is filled with 15 to 20 panels featuring pages from children’s books. The program was launched back in 2019 as a partnership between ODNR and the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The goal is to promote the importance of literacy, a healthy lifestyle and connecting with nature.

View Comments CHILLICOTHE Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine visited Great Seal State Park on Friday to unveil a new trail that works to bring books to life for children and families. The site is part of the Storybook Trails program that was launched in 2019 by ODNR in partnership with the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to promote the importance of literacy, a healthy lifestyle and connecting with nature. DeWine played a large role in starting the state s imagination library which provides children one free book a month from birth to age five. “Ohio s Storybook Trails bring families together for lifelong memories of fun and active learning in the great outdoors,” said First Lady DeWine. “We’re excited to add more trails at parks around the state so even more Ohioans can discover the joy of reading.”

Fran’s Favorites: Buffalo chicken calzones By Fran DeWine We are on our way to Chillicothe this afternoon to dedicate a new grove of trees at the Great Seal State Park to the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fifteen trees will be planted in the grove today by special guests which include the families of victims, some “long-haulers” and survivors, first responders, nurses, doctors, correctional officers, nursing home workers, educators, students, National Guard members, local officials, and frontline workers such as those who work at grocery stores and restaurants. Great Seal State Park is located just north of Chillicothe where the history of Ohio and the Native American culture shroud the land. It became a state park in 1974 and was named for the view that inspired the Great Seal of the State of Ohio.

(Photo submitted) COLUMBUS, Ohio On Friday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Mary Mertz dedicated a new memorial tree grove in honor of the victims and survivors of COVID-19 as well as all Ohioans who made personal sacrifices to protect others amid the coronavirus pandemic. The COVID-19 Pandemic Memorial Grove at Great Seal State Park in Chillicothe includes a grove of 15 newly planted trees surrounding a paved trail. Benches will be added to allow visitors to comfortably reflect on the toll of the pandemic, honor lives lost, pay tribute to courageous frontline workers, and recognize the selfless actions of Ohioans to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
