These websites can help you find perfect plants for spring

It’s dark much of the so-called day, too.
But the weather outside, no matter how frightful, has no impact on the internet.
On it, there’s a bright, colorful, dazzling world of online sites filled with enough plant information to put a spring in the step of even the most winter-weary gardeners.
Winter is a prime time to figure out which plants you’ll want to add to your garden this year, and the sites we’ll mention are excellent sources of information to help you make an informed decision and avoid the “that one looks pretty” impulse-buy approach to horticultural purchases.
New plants from six continents the focus
The March 19 Bowen Island Garden Club meeting will feature a talk and digital slide presentation by Gary Lewis, owner of Phoenix Perennials and Specialty Plants in Richmond.
Gary will speak about many fascinating garden plants that are not well known or that have recently been introduced from far-flung corners of the world. His presentation is a virtual tour of six continents featuring many rare and underused perennials that could be added to your garden
Gary holds a Master of Science degree in plant ecology from the University of British Columbia, and this training is reflected in his greatly expanded nursery which includes one of the largest and most exciting selections of perennials in the lower mainland. He is a member of the perennial selection committee of Great Plant Picks’, an educational awards program of the Miller Botanical Garden that works to build a comprehensive palette of outstanding plants for Pacific Northwest gardens.
