reports and developments out this morning on that russian probe. good morning, it s thursday, july 13th. we re he on capitol hill. had a great night last night. great night. i made this terrible mistake. i get an invitation for crimson, something i thought they were talking about alabama, crimson tide, it was harvard. institute of politics. it was a great event. lots of fun. david rubenstein interviewed us. apparently you re harvard fellow. well, mark, you re a harvard guy. i used to be a member of the institute of politics. no, it s a great thing. once you learn the seek cecr fellowship handshake, it s all
privately, and he has said also publicly that he was going to continue as a republican. and i think just restating it last night only solidified his position both in new hampshire and across the country. and i think it s only going to help him. i think overall, he had a great night last night. i think that he articulated his concerns about immigration and about the issues with isis. and i think it s on the forefront of a lot of people. and i think the polls demonstrate that. looking at the overnight resu s results, he s in excellent shape. people are very concerned about the attacks that took place in california and in paris. i think people are laser focused on it. and they re looking for someone with leadership skills. and mr. trump has certainly demonstrated he s a leader. he says things that are not popular. but he says what s on his mind,
when all in starts right now. good evening from new york. i m chris hayes. last night, the republican candidates got the debate they said they wanted, but the moderators largely declining to press the candidates on often dubious claims, and the candidates regularly ignoring the moderator s questions in favor of their trump speech. the candidates all said they loved it. i thought it was excellent. it was not about the moderators. it was about the candidates. i thought the moderators asked really good questions. we had a great night last night. we enjoyed being a part of that debate. donald trump always gave the debate a good review. he deployed what clearly appeared to be the perfect word to describe it. i thought the three moderators did a fantastic job. not only a really good job, it was elegant.
donald trump dropped by morning joe for an extended conversation, more of that interview soon. jeb bush served coffee to veterans in iowa. he also picked up the endorsement of 96 republican dom knee bob dole. i thought it was fine and i did well, talked about issues important to people. we need to start thinking about the person to beat hillary clinton. rather than trying to get into small differences between each campaign. also in iowa today, rubio who met with voters and talked about being in the limelight. a few hours ago on that stage, i still have remnants of the makeup on. we had a great night last night and enjoyed being a part of that debate. we have coverage of all of the action and nbc s katy tur in new hampshire and let s go to hallie jackson in columbia, south carolina. when s been the reaction today,
underlining problem. i thought bush had a better debate last night because he embraced his inner self. he s nerdy. nobody asked, jeb, what s your favorite color? they asked him policy questions. katrina, do you agree? thus far listening to someone who has had a lot of money, super pac. i think the base has really tried to rally around him. but at the end of the day, he s really been languishing in the polls. you know, i don t know if you agree that he had a great night last night, but is he cutting it? well, i think the debate last night was actually so classy. i think the moderators did such a great job and the fact that the candidates were allowed to speak longer i think did everybody justice. but on jeb bush specifically. well, i think jeb bush is somebody that doesn t have as much passion, as much respect as i have for him. i think our country needs somebody who is extremely passionate and has guts.
