what s at stake here, i think we need to tie in the story that animates most people. what mandates most people? they want to live in a place that safe, they want to feel like they belong, and that search for belonging has in many ways then the history of america. different communities that have come here, and what stops us from being the great city on a hill as a nation, sort of representing the great multi racial democracy that a grand experiment is this very some. live now we re seeing being perpetuated in the highest regions of the republican party, from our most watched and profitable cable news network on the other side. add also, we re seeing these bands of books across the country, and on these attacks on our children s freedoms to learn, and that s what i think is really, makes this tragedy which is ultimately a moment to
concern, versus the public defense in the early, or at least downplaying of the gravity of what is happening. and the problem, i, think that this gets to is the fundamental lack of concern of self preservation. and i don t mean this in a sort of like white racial paranoia sense. i mean in the sense of democracy. democracy at its strongest, but still a fragile system. and if you erode support for this by even saying that your opponents are illegitimate, what you do is erode support in the system that makes it possible to have a peaceful, civil society at all. so i always say these are extremely dangerous points. and that the racism, if you don t care about black people, if you don t care about antisemitism, if you don t care about latinos, fine. but just understand that the biggest war in this country, 720,000 people died over the
