Bigelow: Art provides me opportunity to express myself

David Bigelow has always had a passion for the arts since he was young, and that passion has blossomed into his adulthood and retirement life.
In 1950, Bigelow’s family moved to Sault Ste. Marie from Ann Arbor since his father accepted a position as a teacher at Sault Area High School. At the time, Bigelow was only nine years old. Nine years later, Bigelow would graduate with the Sault High Class of 1959.
“My interest in art began in Bob Bishop’s high school art classes,” said Bigelow. “They were still a refreshing change from some of the other offerings. They did provide a great escape from math, history and science. As I recall, I was an art student of Bob Bishop during my junior and senior years of high school and the art classes really set the stage for me as to what I wanted to do in college.”
