Mount Washington may be one of those destinations that we take for granted, simply because it s always right there. Just like if you grew up in Salem, New Hampshire with Canobie Lake Park less than a 10-minute drive from you, or if you grew up in Saco, Maine with Funtown Splashtown USA a quick jaunt across town it s always there, so you take it for granted.
But Mount Washington is a bit different, because unless you actually KNOW what you can do there, you feel like you ve done it all if you drive up to the summit once, take your picture, then drive down. However, there s WAY more to do at Mount Washington, at the base, along the way to the top, and at the summit, than any of us may have ever realized.

Rockingham Rail Trail
Stretching more than 25 miles from Page Street in Manchester to the old rail depot building in Newfields, the wide packed gravel and dirt trail has multiple access points to make it easier to explore this Merrimack Valley to the Seacoast route in smaller sections. HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL, as the saying goes, and that was especially true this warm and sunny Thursday, after the separate announcements by President Joe Biden and Gov. Chris Sununu one year into this pandemic.
President Biden cautioned that we as Americans must do our part by getting vaccinated and not prematurely abandoning mask wearing, social distancing and other measures that stem the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, Gov. Sununu announced Thursday he is relaxing some of the Granite Stateâs restrictions, including allowing retail stores to again operate at full capacity and no longer requiring travelers arriving in the state to quarantine.
