Opinion: RIP Prince Phillip
A week ago, Prince Phillip of the United Kingdom, 99, died after battling health issues for some time. Queen Elizabeth II of Great Brittain met her future husband when she was a 13-year-old princess. By most accounts, her family strenuously objected to the selection of Phillip Mountbatten as a future husband and consort.
What followed is a royal love story for the ages. According to Google, the young prince courted the future queen by mail while serving in the Royal Navy.
Young people may now never know the thrill of an actual love letter. They may receive love emails or text messages, but it isn’t the same thing at all. The thrill and the agony of waiting by the mailbox to see if the postman will bring word from your beloved have been all but lost. Today, service members generally have access to Skype, Zoom and other manners of communication.
“We must remember when we failed to stand up against human rights abuses in the past, and recall the images from British sporting history like the England football team’s Nazi salutes in the 1930s and the rebel cricket tours to South Africa in the 1980s,” Davey said while calling upon the government and the British Olympic Association to act.
“Team GB (Great Brittain), ParalympicsGB and the Government have a moral responsibility to consider if sending a team to these Games is really the right thing to do. The 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games will be used as a propaganda tool for a regime committing genocide,” he added.

With swaths of bare ground peeking through the melting snow, skis rattling through tracks and swooshing across the lanes, and short-sleeved race tops, World Championship racing continued in a warm Oberstdorf, Germany for the men’s 15k/15k skiathlon. Swirling through the stadium after each 3.75 kilometer lap, four in classic then another four in skate.
CONSIDERING that it is the foundation document of the United Kingdom, there is a vast amount of ignorance about Scotland’s Act of Union which brought about the Union on May 1, 1707. I seriously doubt if any more than, say, 2% of the Scottish population have read all of the Act of Union as passed by the Scottish Parliament on January 16, 1707, by 110 votes to 67. So today and next week I am devoting this column to that Scottish Act of treachery and self-interest. I am not writing about how the Act came about as I have written about that process before, but about the Act itself and what it means for those of us who believe in Scotland regaining its independence – not winning independence but taking it back, which is why my personal slogan is “regain the nation”.
