John Cadbury opened his first shop on Birmingham’s Bull Street in 1824, and it would grow to become Britain’s most established chocolate brand, producing chocolate bars such as Caramel, Dairy Milk and Wispa. Now, with the Great British High Street continuing to witness closures among independent retailers, the Mondelez-owned brand has decided to promote shopping at independent chocolate shops instead of buying its products.

Amid a reopening of the UK, Mondelez’s Cadbury has released an ad urging people to support their local high street with a loving chocolate purchase that isn’t Cadbury.
It is among the many brands looking to kickstart the economy after a prolonged period of lockdown. To hammer home the point it has reworked its ‘Mum’s Birthday’ ad, which depicts a heart-warming scene between the local shop owner and a young girl getting her mum a chocolate birthday gift.
As the market leader, the wider For the Love of Chocolate campaign is Cadbury’s effort to drive brand awareness, share a kind message, and show a bit of confidence in its position. It arrives fresh off the back of research from business insurance firm Simply Business showing that UK small businesses have lost nearly £69bn in sales during the pandemic and that 40% have or will close.

Once a Metro editor emeritus Austin Fido once observed that joining the Red Bulls forces many to experience an existential crisis and reexamine their life trajectory, a notion supported by a noticeable amount of players ending their sporting careers shortly after their tenure at the club.
In 2014, Toronto FC traded Richard Eckersley to New York in exchange for a 2017 fourth-round SuperDraft selection. The English fullback made 17 appearances across all competitions. At the end of the season, the club opted to not exercise his contract option. His time stateside away from the glitz and glamor of the Premier League and Championship led to a crisis of confidence, causing the death of his passion for the sport.
