The prospective development of farming solar energy off highways 16 and 445 has divided neighbors in rural Tangipahoa.
Melinda Casanova, one of several landowners within the projectâs region, admitted during Wednesdayâs development regulations committee meeting that she feels discriminated against and invisible in this process.
âWe all have had this land in our family for years,â she said. âWe are good stewards of the land and nature. We have always cared for our land with great pride. With this overwhelming response from my community and the parish government office, that only validates we are good caregivers of our property.â
She stressed the land does not belong to the solar panel company, the parish government, the state or her neighbors. It belongs to her and the other landowners.
