The director for the St. Clair County Road Commission is hoping to use part of that $1.2 trillion dollar bipartisan infrastructure bill to help improve traffic flow and safety along area roadways. Kirk Weston, speaking to WPHM's Paul Miller yesterday, says it's unknown at this time what the county's share of those federal infrastructure dollars will be, but that hasn't stopped him however from making out his wish list. "Surface maintenance, repaving, maybe some safety issues at intersections that we're seeing out there," said Weston. The Save A Warrior non-profit has applied for grants through The Gannett Foundation’s A Community Thrives program. Now it needs your support.
Gannett is the parent company of The Advocate/NewarkAdvocate.com. The Gannett Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Gannett. A Community Thrives supports nonprofit organizations’ projects focused on community building and has distributed more than $12 million in grants and donations since 2017.
The crowd-funding campaign period, which is Phase 2 of the program, runs July 19 to Aug. 13. Organizations need to raise a required amount in order to be eligible for grant consideration.

Saginaw man pleads in 2019 head-on crash that left woman severely injured

SAGINAW, MI A Saginaw man who crashed a truck into another vehicle nearly two years ago, leaving a woman seriously injured in the process, has accepted a plea deal.
Jeffrey A. Brady, 30, on Wednesday, May 5, appeared before Saginaw County Circuit Judge Janet M. Boes and pleaded no contest to a single count of reckless driving causing serious bodily impairment.
The charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Defense attorney Eldor R. Herrmann said there was no sentencing agreement reached with prosecutors. He added the advisory sentencing guidelines have been calculated at seven to 23 months.
