Mackay region Wagyu breeding program to expand production

Premium Content Subscriber only A commercial Wagyu breeding program in the Mackay region has plans to expand by building a caretakers residence for a full-time worker. ACL Farming has operated along Grasstree Beach Rd for three years but owner, Andrew Ivory, stated he needed extra help to prepare cattle for breeding and birthing. Single-vehicle crash blocks road south of Mackay

Premium Content Emergency services have been called to a single-vehicle crash at Grasstree Beach just after 7pm. The driver is out of the vehicle but Grasstree Road is blocked near the Cabbage Tree Creek bridge. A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the female driver had a laceration to her hand but was stable. He said a crew was still at the scene of the crash. Two Sarina fire crews are working to make the scene safe. More Stories

Man s grip on police officer results in capsicum spray

Premium Content Subscriber only Police were forced to OC spray a Sarina region man s face after he refused to let go of an officer. Prosecutor Sergeant Marcus Hahn told Sarina Magistrates Court that police were called to reports of violence at a Grasstree Beach address about 9.30pm on November 16. Sgt Hahn said Ricky Glen Staples was detained as a result and escorted to a police vehicle for a search where they asked him to remove an item from his pocket. When asked for the other pockets, (Staples) started yelling and jumped out of the police pod, grabbing hold of the front of (the constable s) vest, Sgt Hahn said.

Vegetation vandals strike again in extreme attacks

Vandals have hacked, slashed and chainsawed through Mackay’s foreshore in a vain attempt to create ocean views and beach tracks. Mackay Regional Council said it had uncovered three extreme cases of vegetation vandalism at Grasstree Beach, Haliday Bay and Seaforth. A Development Services report revealed these areas were hot spots for vegetation vandals. It said the council has been in a two-year battle with unknown vandals at the Grasstree Beach esplanade and Haliday Bay, with “continuous damage to vegetation” at the two beaches. The most recent saga included the destruction of 10 plants at both sites in September. The report said Grasstree Beach residents hacked down 10 trees to create an informal track and ocean views.
