campaigning. donald trump and his team are utilizing these indictments as sort of fuel for his campaign. they use it to raise grassroots donations. you heard him just recently say he expects after a fourth indictment his poll numbers will go up more. so he sees this as an opportunity to utilize his legal challenges as a way to fortify his base of support. do you have any idea what his schedule is while he s there at the iowa state fair? reporter: yeah, so he started off, he was at the pork producers tent here in iowa. that s sort of a traditional stop. you see politicians flip some pork chops on the grill. he was mixing and mingling with some fairgoers there. then he moved over to the animal learning center here on the fairgrounds. we saw him walk through there. that s where some questions were shouted at him. now he s over at a food and beer
inflation is slowing down. consumer sentiment is ticking up. but as you mentioned, voters still feel sour about the economy. 75% in that poll say that economic conditions are poor. they are really hoping to bridge that grap. this will be sort of the singular issue for president biden as he heads into next year s election, guys. and, kevin, former president barack obama is getting in on this, pushing for grassroots donors to meet with him and biden. what more do we know about that? reporter: yeah, president obama certainly one of the most popular figures in the democratic party sending out an email solicitation to grassroots donors, offering a chance to meet him and president biden. of course, president obama wants to do everything he can to help president biden get re-elected. he is set to begin a fundraising schedule for president biden this fall. president biden s 2020 campaign was really fueled by these grassroots donations. he broke all kinds of records
presented in the indictment. i mean, and when he does, he tends to cause himself perhaps even greater legal peril. so, instead, he does this broad-based, this is just politics, and it works for him in the short term. it rallies his troops to his side. it brings in more of those grassroots donations. it does, no doubt, sort of blot out the sun. and he continues to be this dominant force in the race. so i don t expect that we re going to see a change and approach from donald trump at each stage. if there are two more indictments to come, i m sure that breitbart interview that you played there, you can hit on repeat. i will say, and this might make me sound very superficial, but he looks a little disheveled and stressed out. and i think, of course, he would be. the legal problems he has are piling up. he s got people who work for him. he s got to keep them in his circle. probably they re people who used to work for him or work for him now who may be cooperating. so this is a very stress
two, to your point, there s real cash on hand numbers. aishah: okay. big sigh of relief, tim. and i imagine that s because of the cnn report that was out maybe 24 hours before the numbers, basically saying that there were a bunch of donors that were having anxiety over biden, even looking for a replacement, and then this comes out. is that a wash? we re democrats, we re always going to have anxiety of. [laughter] that s just baked into the party. but $72 million, $77 million cash on hand, i think 97% of that were from people donating $2000 or less. $39, the average grassroots donations 2900 or 200 orless. everything looks healthy, everything looks good. and this is why i think biden is well positioned in 2024. look, democrats were worried in 2022 as well, but like the president says, compare me against the alternative, not the almighty. we picked up a nat seat that cycle, we were really close in the house. i think he s in a good position.
runs so deep that it dilutes this relevance and unifies us as a country and i m running because i believe i m the candidate in the best position to have unity by reawakening that. you are funding your campaign. how much are you prepared to spend. there s been low limit. i ve lived the full arc of the american dream and if there s one thing i care about advancing is celebrating the country, that is what i care about more than anything else. that being said i think a lot of businessmen or history would teach self-funders make the mistake of thinking that they can just use their own money as a substitute for gaining the support of voters. to the contrary, this campaign will be lifted up by bottom-up, grassroots donations. we are already up in the first few weeks on that front, as well. so it will be a combination of
