Crisis center prepares for high volume of mental health calls

Grassroots has had a 24/7 crisis hotline for 10 years. Their call volume has gone up since the coronavirus pandemic and they expect to get even more calls now.

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen announced that nearly $50 million in direct federal funding for local projects across the Baltimore region was included within the fiscal year 2022 omnibus funding legislation, which the Senators voted to pass Thursday evening.

Howard County projects slated to receive $58 5 million in Hogan s state budget plan

Gov. Larry Hogan’s proposed fiscal 2023 capital budget has earmarked $58.6 million to Howard County construction projects.The largest share of the funds, about $14.8 million, is for Howard Community College’s Mathematics and Athletics Complex. Estimated to cost $101.7 million, the center will include labs and a math learning center as well as a multipurpose gymnasium, locker rooms and fitness center. The complex is expected to open in 2024.

Jewish Federation of Howard County focuses on community service projects during December to honor spirit of mitzvah

On the last night of Hanukkah 2021, volunteers with the Jewish Federation of Howard County organized a shopping spree at a local grocery store to purchase food and necessities to donate to neighbors in need via nonprofit groups such as Howard County Food Bank, Community Action Council of Howard County and Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center. Volunteers will continue their good deeds through during Mitzvah Days, Dec. 21-24.
