Despite the general tenor of last year ( ugh is a universal descriptor), a lot of good things happened. And a lot, surprisingly, in the restaurant world. Even more surprisingly, a lot happened in the city – an area of Sydney widely reported to have suffered the most. That s something to be celebrated.
Restaurants in the CBD and surrounds need your support more than ever, so Good Food is putting out an all-points SOC (Save Our City) call to anyone who is hungry.
Viterbo said they already had concerns because most of their business was from the public and although they had a separate access for customers, their staff still came into contact with hotel staff. ‘’Their staff and our staff have no separation, they share the same corridor on a daily basis, for pick up deliveries and to drop things off. And room service is directly next to our kitchen, so there’s a lot of intermingling.’’ Viterbo said they only found out about Stamford becoming a quarantine hotel through the media, after which they initiated a Zoom call. ‘’Initially they downplayed it . but during this time we were serving the public so we were concerned that if there was an infection among the staff, that it would affect our staff and public.

Auckland s Stamford Plaza is seeking $270,000 from a restaurant which has operated in its premises for many years but shut down in the last few weeks. Marika Eastwick-Field, a Russell McVeagh partner representing the hotel, wrote to the lawyer for Thai Fusion trading as Grasshopper Bar and Restaurant. She sought payment of rent arrears, damages, costs and expenses.
But Bow Manoonpong and Eduardo Viterbo of the restaurant say their business was forced out when the hotel became one of the state s managed isolation quarantine facilities.
They had operated Grasshopper since 2007 and it had traded successfully through many ups and downs, they said.
