okay. that was the news conference right there in washington, d.c., department of justice. we bring in our chief political correspondent. what did you hear that was maybe surprising? very clearly focused primarily and only on the police department. that s correct. this is a very significant announcement from attorney general lore lore receipt tht t. she said it was a direct response not only to the controversy over the laquan mcdonald shooting, that graphic police video, lot of police statements that were just not accurate, but in addition a response to what the doj does, which is review when local processes aren t working and require their review or inquiry. in this case attorney general lisa madigan as well as dick
fair riting out criminal conduct. but i won t comment on this specific investigation. this is a question for both of you, if you will. part of the criticism of this case has been how long it s taken for any measure of justice to be taken as a result of what happened in that incident. my understanding is that the video, the big piece of evidence, the video, was turned over to federal authorities nine days after it happened. can you confirm that and can you tell us what has taken this long? i m not going to speak to time lines specifically what evidence we received and when we received it during the course of the investigation. what i will say is that we have pursued all of the facts and circumstances relevant to mr. mcdonald s death on october 20, 2014 with vigor, with earnestness, with passion as we approach any important investigative matter in chicago.
i do understand [ inaudible question ] people that live in the greater chicagoland region are concerned about that given recent reports that there are differing versions of what happened out there and they don t seem to jive, if you will, with what we see on the video. i completely understand your question. i do think it s important to recognize that today s pattern and practice investigation and the launch of this investigation is related to but separate from what you re asking about which is the la quaucquan mcdonald in. and we do not comment on pending investigations other than to reiterate what the attorney general already said, which is we doindependently, we look at all relevant aspects and options and it not unique to this case.u.s. attorney s office has a great history of doing that and proving that its both independent and appropriatelying a yes, sir saggressive when it
after that young man was shot by police 16 times in the middle of the street, the shooting occurred in october 2014. dash cam video that existed at that time was not released until over a year later, the day before the officer that did carry out that shooting was indicted. for months and for a long time, people had been asking for that video to become evidence and public and yet over and over again there were different ways that that video was blocked. so the investigation into the police department in chicago is expected to be announced as far as the justice department just moments by the attorney general, loretta lynch, police officer involved in the shooting of that man mcdonald was indicted. he is free on bond right now. the process continues. and there we see attorney
