It wouldn’t be a rivalry game without a little drama.
Just when the Grantsville boys basketball team looked to be in the driver’s seat in its road game against Tooele on Wednesday night, the Buffaloes came storming back, nearly erasing the Cowboys’ 10-point lead. However, Grantsville was able to hold on, escaping Tooele High School with a 52-49 win over its county rival.
The Cowboys (3-0) led 39-29 midway through the third quarter after a driving layup by Tuhker Mulford, but the Buffaloes (1-1) answered with a 10-2 run to get back into the game. Senior center Justin Rogers was fouled by Grantsville’s Grayson McKeever as he attempted a 3-pointer from the top of the key, and hit two of three from the free-throw line. Carston Hyre drained a 3-pointer from the left corner to pull the Buffs within five points.
